College of Teacher Education

The College of Teacher Education envisions the integral development of students to become teachers adequately equipped with the knowledge in the faith; in the arts and science and technology; skills and values which they would eventually transmit for the transformation or personal life and the society.

History

Education Program

The College started its formal operation in school year 1951-1952. It started with a handful of college students enrolled in Elementary Education, known as Two-Year Junior Normal Home Economics Course (ETC-HE) and later termed in 1955 as Two-Year Junior Normal Course (ETC). After a few years the Three-Year combined Junior Normal and Junior Home Economics course leading to the title of Elementary Teachers Certificate in Home Economics (ETC-HE) was opened.

The coming of the Franciscan sisters gave an impetus to its enrolment and from then on there was a yearly increase of population. The major turning point of the college came as a result of the opening of the course in Education - the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (BSEED) in 1961. In 1965 the Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE) was likewise opened. There was then a great demand for graduates finishing this course.

Completion of this course enables the graduate to become a teacher in the elementary (BEED) and in the high school (BSED) with majors. Added to this asset of a teacher is the training or knowledge gained in the 24-unit Religion subjects (Theology) which enables one to handle values education subjects in both elementary and high school. Career opportunities abound in both the public and private schools and in private tutoring ventures. An expanded horizon of job opportunities that awaits the successful graduate is in-charge of training programs of corporations, offices, businesses.

This course requires passing the entrance examination and a grade cut-off of 85%. The course covers the basic general education required by CHED for the completion of the Baccalaureate degree. It includes preparation for the teaching profession in the various fields or majors in the college.
